The mayor of the City of Quinte West Jim Harrison says 2024 was a year about moving forward and working with what you’ve got.
Quinte News spoke to His Worship about the last 12 months and 2025.
He says the year finished with a difficult budget, as there are a lot of priorities and only so many dollars to work with.
Harrison says they do what they can with what they have.
“We’re trying to help many people including the homeless, we try to help our businesses. I also am very, very proud of all our first responders. We’re fortunate here. The depth we have in our police department, we have in our fire department, our paramedics, all of those people.
Harrison pointed to the growth in the business sector in the municipality over the last 12 months, including expansions at Quinte Custom Foods, All Season Fencing, and the official opening of Homestead Marketplace.
“Homestead Marketplace, a fantastic place, fantastic restaurants, facilities, and activities, businesses. You name it, it’s there.”
The mayor says as they move into 2025, there will be a focus on recruiting and retaining strong staff, along with pursuing funding to help with major capital projects.
