It was less than 100-days ago that Tyler Allsopp was elected as the Member of Provincial Parliament for the Bay of Quinte riding.
He replaced Todd Smith, who stepped away from politics to pursue a position in the private sector.
We spoke with Allsopp about his role and hitting the ground running.
“It’s been like drinking through a fire hose, but it’s been a very productive fall session. Past Working for Workers 5 and we’re on Working for Workers 6 now. Long-term care just put forward a new bill, Support for Seniors and Caregivers Act, designed to help seniors whether they’re living in community, on their own, with some support, whether they’re in retirement homes, or in long-term care facilities.”
He says there has also been a focus on transportation and gridlock, which he says has a huge impact on the economy.
“Over $11-billion a year is lost just to trucks waiting in traffic, people unable to get to work. So, we’re very much looking forward to seeing that implemented and saving people some time.”
Allsopp says some of the major issues in 2024 were the cost of home ownership and renting, the cost of living, the opioid epidemic, and the focus on trade with the United States.
He says Canada and the United States are better together and he says the Premier has had a focus on working with Governors in several US States.
