The Liberal government’s Fall Economic Statement today has revealed a staggering $61.9 billion deficit—yet another blow to Canadians already struggling with skyrocketing costs of living. Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams says “This irresponsible fiscal approach is poised to drive inflation higher, devalue our dollar, and further increase grocery prices. At a time when rents, mortgages, and gun crime have all doubled, Canadians are left asking ‘How much more can we take?’”
“This economic update shows a government completely out of touch with reality,” said MP Williams , Shadow Minister for International Trade. “Canadians are being crushed by inflation, rising food prices, and unaffordable housing. Yet the Liberals’ answer is to dig the country deeper into debt, drive the cost of living even higher, and devalue the dollar, making everything from groceries to gas more expensive.”
Key Issues in the Liberal Economic Statement:
- Runaway Spending: The $61.9 billion deficit is yet another example of the Liberals’ addiction to overspending, which directly fuels inflation and erodes Canadians’ purchasing power.
- Skyrocketing Grocery Prices: A weaker Canadian dollar means higher costs for imported goods, further driving up grocery bills at a time when many Canadians are already visiting food banks.
- Inflationary Impact: Every additional dollar borrowed by the government adds to inflation, squeezing families who can no longer afford basic necessities.
- Housing Crisis Ignored: With rent and mortgage costs having doubled under this government, there is no credible plan to make housing affordable for Canadians.
MP Williams believes the Liberal governments fiscal incompetence is not only exacerbating today’s inflation crisis but also jeopardizing Canada’s economic future. He says “While the government continues to spend without a plan, everyday Canadians are left footing the bill for this governments failures.” He adds “Families are cutting back on meals, young people can’t afford homes, and seniors can’t keep up with their heating bills. We are now borrowing at higher interest rates, driving up debt costs, and forcing future generations to pay for the Liberals’ reckless spending spree.”
MP Williams says it is time for a call for fiscal responsibility. The Conservatives are calling for a return to common sense in managing Canada’s finances.
This means:
- Ending inflationary spending to help bring down the cost of living for Canadians.
- Strengthening the dollar to protect Canadians from rising prices on food and other essentials.
- Focusing on affordability by tackling the housing crisis and lowering taxes for families and businesses.
“This country needs leadership that understands the struggles of everyday Canadians and has a plan to address them,” added Williams. “It’s time to end the Liberal economic experiment that has left families poorer, prices higher, and Canada’s future at risk. Canadians deserve better.”
