Members of Lennox and Addington (L&A) and Frontenac County OPP have charged 67 drivers in a six-day distracted driving operation.
L&A and Frontenac County officers conducted enforcement on Highway 401 targeting drivers using their hand-held communication devices while driving. Sixty-seven drivers were stopped and charged for this offence during the targeted enforcement including nine commercial motor vehicles. Each one of these drivers faces a $615 fine with three demerit points and a three-day licence suspension upon first conviction.
The OPP remind all drivers that using a hand-held communication device while driving is distracted driving and can have tragic results. Drivers are encouraged to use hands free devices only for the safety of themselves and other road users.
