Prince Edward County has reversed course on a previously denied zoning application for a potential new subdivision at Cold Creek.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, Councillor Brad Nieman put forward a motion to reconsider the previous denial, which stemmed from a council meeting in late October. The subdivision would be located along Sandy Hook Road, just outside of Picton.
With the motion back on the floor, Councillor Nieman also proposed an amendment to not approve the new subdivision as is, but to direct municipal staff to work with the developer to address several environmental concerns with the property, before bringing it back to council at a later date.
During the meeting, several members of the public gave comment, listing concerns with the high water table in the area, and that construction there might cause flooding, contaminate groundwater, or have other issues if the subdivision were built.
Council voted to pass the motion as amended.
