Belleville Transit will be asking council to pre-approve the hiring of six new bus operators Monday (November 25).
The 2025 city budget has not yet been set.
A staff report to council explains that the city’s footprint has grown over the years and ridership on
transit and mobility buses has been steadily increasing.
Also, a consultant’s report mistakenly failed to take into account the growing demand for mobility transit service and time spent cleaning the buses.
The cost of the employees would be $465,000 a year but most of that would be paid from provincial gas tax and staff say the additional operators would raise the tax levy by less than 0.2 per cent.
