Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory’s Ben Maracle has been named the recipient of the Ontario University Athletics Russ Jackson Award.
Maracle is the quarterback of the Ottawa University football Gee Gees.
The Russ Jackson award is presented to the player who best exemplifies the attributes of football skill, academic achievement and citizenship.
Maracle, a St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School graduate helped organize football camps for Indigenous Youth for the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks and the Toronto Argonauts.
That included a free camp with 3 Argo players in Tyendinaga in July.
Ben Maracle received the award on November 7th.
He majored in Psychology at Ottawa University.
Russ Jackson played 12 seasons in the CFL and is generally considered the best Canadian quarterback to play in the league.
He led the Ottawa Roughriders to 3 Grey Cup championships.
