A report to council outlines pay and expenses for those who sit around the horseshoe in Belleville.
According to the 2023 report, the base salary for Mayor Neil Ellis was $117,563.29. Ellis received another $22,250.12 to sit on the Elexicon board and an additional $3,000 from the Police Services Board. The total remuneration was $142,813.41.
Ellis qualifies for a car allowance for his work as mayor. That came in at $5,236.85. His full expense claim for 2023 was $16,589.87 (including car allowance). His taxable benefits claim was for $707.40.
Expenses for council include conference registration and training, mileage, accommodations, cultural exchange, and a category entitled other.
The base salary for council members is $39,480.92.
Former Councillor Tyler Allsopp submitted no expenses, Kathryn Brown just $8.49, Paul Carr $30.02.
Barb Enright-Miller came in at $4,528.76, Garnet Thompson $7,505.75, and Sean Kelly at $7,759.85.
Lisa Ann Chatten’s expenses came to $8,859.29 and Chris Malette was $9,213.95.
Each councillor claims a taxable benefit of $265.04.
Former Councillor Allsopp received $4,000 to serve on the Police Services Board, while councillors Brown, Carr, and Malette were paid to sit on the Quinte Conservation Board (Brown and Carr – $270, Malette $225).
Remuneration for councillors came to $463,425.77, taxable benefits $2,827,72, and expenses $54,495.98
