Demand for youth services is on the rise in Prince Edward County.
Shannon Collins, acting executive director for theROC Youth Services, presented Prince Edward County Council with their 2023-24 annual report during Tuesday’s council meeting.
During her presentation, Collins advised council on the rising demand for assistance, and how they’re helping more youth in the community. Over the last year, there was a 37% increase in youth program participation. During that same period, 86% of participants said they visit theROC to access food. There had also been a 67% increase in mental wellness check-ins.
The services provided by theROC are varied, and include mental health counselling, academic supports, meals, hygiene supplies, and supports for youth who have gotten into conflicts with the law.
Collins concluded the report by thanking council for their ongoing support of the program.
Council accepted the report, but took no action at this time.
