Lovel passed away peacefully at Ed’s House Hospice on Monday, November 4th, 2024 in his 82nd year. He was the loving husband of Joan and beloved father of Wendy Mackey (late John) and April Farmer (Marc). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren James, Tessa, Lily, William and Matthew. Lovel is survived by his brothers Jim Lord (Carol) and Bruce Lord (Louise) and his many nieces and nephews.
Lovel began his 40 year career in insurance with a large company in Winnipeg and transitioned to becoming a partner at Cohen & Lord insurance brokers. He enjoyed his work, especially his personal connection with his clients.
Anyone that knew Lovel was aware of his love for all aspects of sport. He was competitive in every sport he played. A few highlights were curling across Canada and Europe, participating in the 1985 Brier and playing hockey into his 70s. He fondly remembered running the Cabot trail relay twice with his friends and golfing, whether at local courses or on a boys trip away. Passing on his waterskiing talent to his daughters and grandchildren brought him great joy. We all know how much he loved the Ottawa Senators.
One of his greatest passions later in life was traveling the world with Joan.
His brothers and friends were a tremendous support throughout his illness to the very end. Tuesday and Thursday coffee hour and playing cards with friends meant the world to him.
Above all else, his family was the joy of his life. He was beyond proud of his two daughters and five grandchildren and not a week would go by without him mentioning it.
It was a love affair of 60 years together with Joan. Seeing them on the dance floor captured their magical rhythm of a lifetime of dancing and loving together (except when they played bridge).
A private celebration of life will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Ed’s Hospice, Cobourg or the ALS Society of Canada in memory of Lovel would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences at www.weaverfuneralhomes.com
