Workers at Shorelines Casino, members of Unifor Local 1090, have reached a new deal with their employer.
A tentative four-year agreement was reached Sunday night and was ratified by union members on Tuesday with 63% voting in favour.
Their previous agreement expired at the end of September.
The union’s Bargaining Committee chair Scott DeRushie says the group worked extremely hard to negotiate a fair and equitable agreement on their members’ behalf and were able to achieve the majority of their mandates in what he calls a great deal all the way around.
Highlights of the agreement contain:
Wage increases that reach parity with their two sister sites in a maximum of 18 months for every classification, on average 14% increases over that period with 3% in year three and 3% in year four, giving many classifications greater than 20% over the life of the agreement, some much higher.
A reduction on their co-pay for benefits by 50% that the other sites do not have, plus a me too clause that allows them to have any benefits that are negotiated by their sister sites in 2026 at the master table.
Vacation qualifiers reduced from five years to three years for their next allowable week, plus a me too clause that allows them to have the pay forward vacation system if their sister sites achieve it in 2026.
Two more paid time off days, going from three to five.
A minimum wage escalator clause that will maintain $0.50 above minimum wage should it continue to rise.
