Quinte Economic Development Commission says it is has applied for the next round of funding from the province’s Skills Development Fund.
The update was made at QEDC’s meeting at Loyalist College on Thursday.
CEO of QEDC, Chris King, tells Quinte News that the funding goes towards the Elevate Plus program.
“We’ve talked a lot about Elevate Plus in the past, which is a training program to get people with barriers to employment back to work,” King explained to Quinte News.
“So we had a recent graduation of folks who completed the program who are now going into full-time jobs. Then we have another class starting on November 8. They’re, again, getting those people trained and ready for jobs and most of them come off some kind of assistance program, so we’re taking them off those programs and putting them into employment.”
The application was submitted on October 1.
King says it is uncertain when they will hear word back on if the funding would be approved or not.
“In the past sometimes it starts April 1, we might not hear untll the March timeframe, we just don’t know,” King said.
“Hopefully it’ll be a little sooner, just because we need to plan and we need to work with our partners to make sure they have the right team in place. But we’ve been doing this for years, and we’re hopeful that we’ll get support again for another round of it.”
