Belleville’s mayor and councillors will be paid more money for travel expenses from now on.
Tuesday council voted to increase the rate for travel to 70 cents per kilometre from the previous rate of 52 cents.
Meanwhile the mayor will receive a straight payment of $700 a month for travel inside the city’s boundaries, up from $400, and 70 cents a kilometre for travel outside the city.
The updated travel expenses for council members are in line with the city’s union contracts.
