The announcement of what would be Belleville’s largest development project ever was made over two years ago but the public hasn’t heard much since, about the Black Bear Ridge Golf Course property.
Work continues on the over $1.5 billion housing and resort development on the golf course but it’s all in the background.
City of Belleville staff say the developers have been working on detailed plans and completing necessary studies before formally submitting applications to the planning department for an eventual decision on a go-ahead.
Those applications are expected by the end of the year. Meantime the developers hope to hold a public information session on the project later this fall at the golf course.
The initial proposal called for up to 3,000 residential units, recreational facilities, restaurants, and tourist accommodations on about 40 per cent of the 900-acre property.
The project would take decades to complete.
