The discussion was important and lively at a special event marking October as Breast Cancer Awareness Tuesday evening in Belleville.
About 100 people, mostly women, attended the “Let’s Talk About It” event at Belleville Public Library.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Canadian women and in 2022 close to 29,000 Canadian women were diagnosed with it, with over 5,000 dying from the disease.
Guest speakers at the event were Dr. Karen Clayton-Babb of the Belleville Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic, Dr. Michelle Durkin of the Quinte Naturopathic Centre, and Dr. Julie Gowthorpe of Gowthorpe Therapists.
Also speaking were breast cancer survivors.
Attendees heard updates on the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and the various methods whereby those diagnosed can deal with the stress brought on by the illness.
The event’s emcee was MIX97 morning show host Sean Kelly. It was sponsored by the Quinte Broadcasting Company.
