Monday is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
As ceremonies recognizing the day are held across the country, there will be some changes to business hours and services.
September 30 is a federal statutory holiday but it is not a provincial one in Ontario.
This means schools are open, as are most malls, grocery stores and other retail outlets.
The Beer Store is open. LCBOs will open at noon and close at their regular time.
Banks and financial institutions are closed.
Canada Post offices are closed and there is no mail delivery.
Other federal offices such as Service Canada are also closed.
Below is what is open and closed in the City of Belleville on Monday:
City Hall – Closed Sept. 30.
Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre – Closed Sept. 30. Clients of Belleville Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic and The Therapeutic Massage Centre will be able to access the building through the west entrance only.
Transit – Regular transit and mobility transit running as usual.
Leaf & Yard Waste Depot – Closed Sept. 30.
Thurlow Landfill – No change to regular public hours.
Hazardous and Electronic Waste Depot – No change to regular public hours.
Glanmore National Historic Site – Closed Sept. 30 (no changes to regular hours).
Belleville Public Library – Closed Sept. 30.
Community Archives – Closed Sept. 30.
There will be no changes to curbside garbage, green bin, recycling or bulky items collection.
Belleville is also hosting a National Day of Truth and Reconciliation ceremony at Market Square from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
In Quinte West, the following will be closed:
- Quinte West City Hall
- Frankford Municipal Office
- Quinte West Public Library branches
- The Frankford landfill will be closed.
In Prince Edward County, municipal administrative offices and community centres will be closed, however, curbside garbage, green bin, and recycling pick-up service will continue according to the regular schedule.
