Belleville City Council approved entering into an agreement with Children’s Safety Village Belleville (CSV) that would give the charity a $125,000 loan.
The loan would be to help the organization with fundraising efforts and preliminary design work as the Children’s Safety Village prepares for a move to its new location at the former Hillcrest School property, now Clifford Sonny Belch Park.
CSV is moving to the location after the city reached an agreement to transfer the former police headquarters at 129 South John Street to Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward Hastings, a building currently occupied by Children’s Safety Village.
According to the loan agreement, CSV estimates a cost of $3.5 to $4 million in order to renovate the new site for their needs.
They also expect to incur costs of at least $125,000 for its fundraising efforts and preliminary design work.
The loan will be repayable in payments of interest beginning September 1, 2025 with the principal sum, together with any accrued interest due and payable, on September 1, 2034.
