Millhaven Institution, southeast of Napanee, is on modified routine today because of a disturbance involving 48 inmates.
The prisoners in the Maximum Security Unit refused to return to their cells last evening, and remained in the exercise yard. Some tried to get into a smaller yard and gymnasium, but staff fired several warning shots and pepper spray to contain the situation.
One inmate suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and was taken to hospital, and negotiations continued through the night, with the O-P-P Penitentiary squad being contacted.
Correctional Service Canada is advising visitors to call Millhaven before planning to attend today.
