As per a council decision last month, Quinte West has applied for funding in the second round of the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund.
The city altered its Housing Action Plan to better align with the fund’s application criteria and to increase the affordable housing supply in Quinte West.
The plan includes a program to sell municipal lands for affordable housing projects, providing financial incentives to homeowners who create accessory dwelling units in their existing homes, and launching a new online permitting program for building permits and planning applications.
“The housing initiatives outlined in the city’s Housing Accelerator Fund’s Round 2 application align with the City of Quinte West’s Strategic Plan by promoting affordable housing development,” says Brian Jardine, Director of Planning and Development. “Support from the Housing Accelerator Fund will enable the city to accelerate the implementation of its housing initiatives over the next three years.”
Belleville and Prince Edward County, both denied funding the first time around, submitted applications in round two as well.
Applications closed September 13.
The first round of the Housing Accelerator Fund offered $4 billion in funding split between successful applications, however, in the second round, only $400 million will be doled out.
