The 2024 Cops and Kids Fishing Derby began in Belleville this morning, and the participants couldn’t ask for better weather.
With not a cloud in the sky, local kids and police officers are casting their lines to land fish in Victoria Park. The event is planned to help foster a positive connection between officers and children in the community.
Belleville Police Sergeant Pat Comeau said that officers were doing their best to make the day special for every child who attended.
“We’re excited to get kids, and we’re excited to help with kids,” said Sgt. Comeau. “Because ultimately, most of the officers, their number one goal is to help people in the community and that’s what we’re doing.”
Belleville Police Service has been joined by officers from Tyendinaga Police, conservation officers, and military police.
The event is running until noon.
