Disappointing news delivered by GM to the Bob Clute Auto Group yesterday. Owner-Operator Bob Clute was informed that the Pontiac-Buick dealership will continue to operate but only until October 2010. Clute says he will continue to operate the Saturn dealership well into the future. Clute concedes he has a number of decisions to make prior to next October but says he’s not leaving town and will continue to be a player in the Quinte auto sales business.
Meanwhile, Peter Smith Chevrolet in Belleville and Don McCurdy GM in Trenton will live to see another day. Smith says he was relieved to finally receive word he’d been retained late yesterday afternoon but calls the process excruciating. He says none of the staff at his dealership were jumping for joy. McCurdy says they were worried after a long afternoon of waiting but staff were relieved to finally get the news they were hoping for.
The dealers were informed Tuesday that GM was closing 42-percent of its dealerships across Canada.
