One dollar turned into $100,000 for a Tweed resident.
Radu Barbu matched the last six of seven ENCORE numbers in exact order in the August 9, 2024 LOTTO MAX draw.
Barbu has been playing for over 25 years and is celebrating his first big win.
“Let me just say, it was a good coffee break,” Barbu tells OLG in a press release.
“It was two days before my birthday, and I was enjoying a coffee while checking my tickets. At first, I thought I had won $100. After a second glance, I saw a few more zeros.”
Barbu described his reaction to finding out he won.
“I handed my ticket to the clerk and the lottery terminal froze. Even after the win process started, it didn’t fully sink in. It took a few days for it to feel real,” Radu smiled. “I told my parents, and they couldn’t believe it either. When the news sunk in, they were so happy for me,” he tells OLG.
Using his winnings, Barbu is planning a trip and saving for retirement.
The winning ticket was purchased at Ultramar on Bonjour Boulevard in Madoc.
