We are so broken hearted to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father & Papa, Jan Hovinga of Stirling, at the young age of 76. He was deeply loved & cherished for 48 years by his wife & best friend Nancy (nee Smith). He will be dearly missed by his beloved sons Eric of Belleville, Ivan (Jen) of Trenton & Dirk (Brenda) of Port Stanley. He was the loving & treasured Papa of Wyatt. He is survived by his brothers Ron (Carol) & Peter (Roseanne) both of Belleville & his sister Margaret (John) Madden of Brampton. Predeceased by parents Pier & Geertje (Talsma) Hovinga, brother Minne & his sisters-in-law, Sharon & Beverly Hovinga. He is also survived by his extended family Doug & Claudia Smith, Barbara Smith, Beverley Smith & Bob Smith & Elaine Deveny. Also predeceased by Nancy’s parents & siblings, Harvey & Betty Smith, Paul (Lois) Bridges, Wayne (Linda) Green & Steve (Arlene) Smith. He is lovingly remembered by many nieces & nephews. Jan was a long time employee of Nortel. He & his wife shared a love of life & friendships with many & had so many great adventures together.
The family will receive friends at the Steele Funeral Home, 30 Moira Street West, (613-968-2273) on Friday, August 30th, from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00. A Memorial Service will be held in the Steele Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11:30 am with inurnment to follow at Stirling Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Donations to your local Lions Club or to Farmtown Park in Stirling to honour Jan’s memory would be appreciated.
