Despite some rain, the Belleville Caribbean Festival took over downtown Belleville for day two of the event on Saturday.
After starting at West Zwick’s Park on Friday, the festival moved to the downtown core where those passing by were able to witness musical performances at both the Front Street stage as well as the stage close to the beer gardens at the parking lot near City Hall.
Those walking through the festival also got to see the 17 food vendors and 32 market vendors spread out across the event.
“We had a little bit of rain, but we didn’t let that stop us,” executive director of the Belleville Downtown District BIA, Danielle Hanoman, tells media.
“A lot of people just say that rain is a blessing, so we’re happy that it is. The sun is shining. It’s a beautiful day, and the music and food is going so (we’re) really happy on how it’s turning out so far.”
The highlight for many in the area was the King and Queen Parade which saw several floats go through the area.
“So we had 10 floats that we brought from the Toronto (Caribbean Festival), and the festival management committee was able to assist with that, and that is a lot more than what we had last year,” Hanoman said.
“So trying to go bigger and better every single year, and we’re already planning and looking forward to next year.”
The festival wraps up Sunday with a brunch prepared by Caribbean Jerk Spot.
There will also continue to be live performances at the event.
