This year’s Terry Fox Run is now less than a month away.
The 44th annual run which raises money for cancer research will be held September 15 at Zwick’s Park.
Terry Fox, who lost his leg to cancer at the age of 18 began his Marathon of Hope in April 1980, running from Atlantic Canada to Thunder Bay before the disease forced him to stop running.
Belleville has been a part of the Terry Fox run, almost since the beginning – it was the 10th site to sign on to host an event.
According to the Terry Fox Run website, this year’s fundraising goal for the Belleville event is $50,300.
Just over $50,000 was raised last year and $1,037,000 has been raised locally since Belleville started hosting its own event more than 40 years ago.
Organizers will release more details and special guests as the event draws closer.
