Bay of Quinte MPP and current Minister of Education Todd Smith has resigned.
Smith released a statement last hour stating that after 13 years as a member of provincial parliament and six years in cabinet he has made the decision to leave provincial politics and accept a position in the private sector.
He says he has spoken to Premier Doug Ford to let him know he is resigning his seat, stepping down from cabinet duties immediately and not seeking reelection.
Smith held several cabinet positions over the last six years including Minister of Government and Consumer Services, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Ontario Government House Leader and Minister of Children, Community and Social Services and Minister of Energy.
Smith has not indicated what position he has taken in the private sector and says he won’t be commenting further until next week.
He will be appearing on the Round Table on the Lorne Brooker Show on Monday morning at 9 a.m.
