Northumberland OPP arrested a driver on multiple charges following a collision in Trent Hills that resulted in a two-day ordeal.
Around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, a caller reported a collision on Johnston Road and that the driver was walking away from their vehicle.
Officers patrolled the area, locating the described individual at a nearby address.
The person allegedly got into another vehicle they had access to and reversed into a police cruiser before driving away.
No one was injured and the cruiser received minimal damage.
Investigation revealed the identification of the suspect and confirmed they were prohibited from driving.
Late Wednesday morning, police received another traffic complaint from Alnwick-Haldimand Township which led them to believe it was the same driver.
Officers located a vehicle matching the description parked off Jakobi Road in Cramahe Township.
The wanted individual had flagged down a motorist, claiming they had run out of gas and asking for a ride.
The motorist pulled over a little further down the road upon seeing police and suspecting the passenger’s account to be inaccurate.
The accused was then arrested and taken into custody by police.
As a result of both incidents a 50-year-old man from Warkworth, has been charged with:
– Dangerous operation – two counts
– Flight from peace officer
– Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
– Operation while prohibited – three counts
– Driving while under suspension – three counts
– Careless driving
– Fail to remain
– Fail to report accident
– Failure to comply with undertaking – two counts
– Operate motor vehicle without insurance
– Drive motor vehicle – no currently validated permit.
The individual was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice.
Both vehicles driven were impounded for 45 days.
