The lockdown at Warkworth Institution is over.
A lockdown and exceptional search were instituted on July 30 and visiting was suspended.
During the exceptional search, contraband and unauthorized items including drugs, drug paraphernalia, handmade “stabbing” weapons, tattoo paraphernalia, cell phones and accessories were found.
Now that the lockdown has ended, normal operations, including visits, have resumed.
In a press release, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says it has strengthened measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
It was not stated whether any charges were laid in connection to the exceptional search.
