The Canadian Mental Health Association Hastings Prince Edward has announced it will be working with partners to host a number of community events for International Overdose Awareness Day on August 28.
The events will be held in the following areas:
- Bancroft – Bancroft Family Health Team, 19 Oak Street, Bancroft from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- Belleville – Market Square, 169 Front Street, Belleville from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Picton – Giant Tiger parking lot, 20 Elizabeth Street, Picton from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Trenton – Centennial Park, 12 Couch Crescent, Trenton from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Tweed – Tweed Memorial Park, 45 Victoria Street South, Tweed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Naloxone training and information about community support will be available at all of the events.
“These local events aim to raise awareness about drug poisonings, reduce stigma, and remember those who have died or suffered permanent injury due to drug poisonings,” said CMHA HPE CEO Lisa Ali in a release.
“While we continue to work with the province in developing a long-term solution to the drug poisoning crisis, we encourage community members to know the signs of overdose and how to prevent it.”
