The International Monarch Monitoring Blitz is being held from July 26 to August 4.
The annual event invites community scientists from across North America to come together with the shared goal of helping to protect and conserve the monarch butterfly.
Data collected by volunteers each year supports efforts in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to better understand the monarch butterfly’s breeding productivity, range, and timing in North America.
Canadians are invited to share their observations through Mission Monarch or iNaturalist Canada.
Prince Edward County’s South Shore Joint Initiative is holding its own International Monarch Monitoring Blitz event on Sunday, July 28.
It begins at 10 a.m. at Hudgin House, 191 Ostrander Point Road.
The event will feature the Wild Thing monarch display and SSJI members will review the method for adding sightings to the SSJI iNatualist project Biodiversity of Prince Edward County’s South Shore.
You can also take a short walk on Ostrander Point Road to look for Monarchs and practise your iNaturalist skills.
