Quinte West will partner with the recently-opened Loyalist College Centre for Healthy Communities to update its expiring Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
Operations Manager for Loyalist’s Centre for Healthy Communities Kurstin Salisbury told council Wednesday that the purpose of its applied research is to help communities or industries solve real world problems with immediate applications.
“And we do this by bringing together our industry and community partners, our researchers, our staff, our students and we leverage their existing and unique knowledge with new knowledge to help create data-informed decision making.”
Final recommendations are expected sometime next year.
The centre will not be charging Quinte West for its research. The city hired consultants to help produce its first Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
Accomplishments under that plan included; Quinte West’s first Landlord Summit, a Quinte West Wellness Expo, the Quinte West Pocket Guide – a print resource made available to residents, frontline workers and agencies sharing helpful location and contact information about local social services and supports, the Quinte West Community Cupboard (non-perishable food, water, personal care items) and an ‘In Their Shoes’ awareness event sharing information, resources and perspectives on housing challenges in the community.
