In recognition of Wendy’s and Wayne’s generosity, the YMCA will be naming the café and its seating area in their honour.
“We are thrilled to support the YMCA Centre for Life and its mission to enrich the lives of individuals and families in Belleville,” said Wayne Sheppard. “Having seen firsthand the transformative power of community involvement, we are confident in the YMCA’s ability to make a lasting difference.”
Speaking with Quinte News, Wendy Sheppard outlined the thought process on which aspects of the Y they wanted to support.
Centre for Life Fundraising Chair Kristin Crowe says the $9 million target cannot be hit without significant gifts such as this, however, they need people to be able to make the $10 and $20 donations as well.
“Every single dollar counts, regardless of the size of the investment. We have had an incredible team behind us, in front of us, beside us, and there has been a lot of grit put into this campaign so far and we are inching our way towards our goal.”

Local YMCA President Dave Allen tells Quinte News this is a significant portion of the $9 million public fundraising component
“The project is resonating with people. As long as we share the information and the positive impact that it’s going to have on so many people within our community, there’s really going to be something for everyone.”
The federal and provincial governments have earmarked about $16 million towards the project.
The new YMCA is going to be built on the old Belleville Fairground property, on 5.4 acres on the west side.
