The unemployment rate for the Belleville-Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area rose in June.
The rate for the local CMA, which includes Belleville, Quinte West, Deseronto-Tyendinaga and Stirling-Rawdon, climbed to 6.2% last month, up from May’s 5.4%.
It is still slightly lower than the national rate of 6.4% which is the highest it’s been since January 2022.
Statistics Canada reports the national economy lost 1,400 jobs in June.
Ontario’s rate also increased from 6.7% in May to 7.0% last month.
