Communities are holding big events on Canada Day across the Quinte region.
In Belleville, the party kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at West Zwick’s Park, with the main festival beginning at noon. The festival includes numerous attractions with a bouncy castle, buskers, a mechanical bull, balloon twisting, face painting, and a number of live entertainment acts sponsored by Quinte Broadcasting set throughout the afternoon. The day caps off with a fireworks show at dusk.
In Quinte West, the day’s festivities begin at 7:30 a.m. in Centennial park. The Lions Club is holding a pancake breakfast. After that the park will be filled with entertainment including a car show, live music, food trucks, and Blades of Glory, a medieval knight fighting show. The day caps off with a fireworks show at dusk.
There’s a long list of events in Prince Edward County, under the PECelebrates group of events. The Canada Day Strawberry Social starts at 9:30 at Wellington United Church. The Canada Day parade begins on Wellington Main Street at 10:30. There are also afternoon events in Armory Square and Benson Park.
Other local communities are celebrating too. In Brighton, celebrations are taking place in King Edward Park, from 10 to 3. In Napanee, festivities begin at 7 a.m. at the Strathcona Paper Centre with a festival afterwards at 10 a.m. Deseronto has an afternoon festival starting with a flag raising at 3 p.m. and culminating in a fireworks show at dusk. Centre Hastings is holding a festival starting at 10 a.m. in Centre Hastings Park, with fireworks at dusk. Tyendinaga Township is also holding a festival at 4 p.m., continuing until a fireworks show at dusk.
