Northumberland County says County Council received an update from its Social Services Committee that 181 new spaces are opening at licensed child-care centres in Northumberland this year.
Expansion will include 119 new spaces in Port Hope, 47 new spaces in Trent Hills and 15 new spaces in Cobourg.
The county says that expansion will be funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario and aims to address the shortage of licensed child-care spaces in those three areas.
In addition, Northumberland County will be looking at renovations to the Ruth Clarke Activity Centre and Canton Hub to introduce two new child-care locations in Port Hope.
Renovation plans are also underway to introduce 47 new spaces in Warkworth.
