It has been a long time since the Quinte International Air Show dawned the skies of the Bay of Quinte. 8 years in fact
This year’s air show is now just two weeks away and organizers are in the thick of it, trying to complete last minute tasks.
Lieutenant-Colonel (ret.) Kevin Tromp is back as one of this years main organizers.
He tells Quinte News there are a number of things still coming together.
They include getting a civilian aircraft fuel contract, fencing, rental cars, hotel rooms, hundreds of outdoor washrooms.
Tromp says tickets sales have gone really well so far.
“We wanted to do that to have a better idea of how many people to expect on Saturday and Sunday. There’s still tickets left. I think Saturday has a chance of selling out.”
There is a limit of 50,000 tickets per day (Saturday & Sunday).
The City of Quinte West and Loyalist College have partnered with the air show for parking. Tromp says those who arrive early each day will have an opportunity to park on base, however if you plan to attend later in the day, there will be busing from the municipal offices/Trent Port Marina to the west and the post-secondary school to the east.
Some of the planes at the show include a Lancaster Bomber, the Snowbirds, the Frecce Tricolori (Italian Aerobatics team), C47 Dakota, spitfires, mustangs, legacy jets, a water bomber, and one everything the Royal Canadian Air Force flies.
There will be dozens of food/drink vendors, displays, simulators, an F18 cockpit virtual reality, aerobatic demonstrations, and much more. There will be opportunities to learn more about careers in aviation as well.
Tromp says there is an opportunity to get tickets online.
“Tickets right now are $25 for adults, youth from 7-17, seniors and veterans are $20. Military members in uniform are free.”
Throughout the air show weekend, CJBQ, Mix 97, Rock 107, and Quinte News be providing updates.
