Belleville City Council has approved another Community Safety Zone in the city, this one along a 1.1 kilometre stretch of Bridge Street West, from Sidney Street to Haslett Court.
Haslett Court is between Palmer and Marshall roads.
Community Safety Zones feature lower speed limits and drivers face fines double the usual amount for speeding infractions.
There are several schools in the area, as well as a seniors’ residence and park and it meets risk factor components including traffic volume and pedestrian use, all criteria permitting a Community Safety Zone designation.
Council approved the staff recommendation without discussion on Monday.
Meanwhile, the city continues to prepare for the introduction of Automated Speed Enforcement which will begin operating in Community Safety Zones this summer.
Four cameras will rotate through the 11 Community Safety Zones.
