Building activity in Belleville in May was well down.
The city’s Building Department issued 53 permits with a construction value of $9.2 million last month.
In May 2023, there were 84 permits valued at just over $36 million issued.
Construction began on six new homes in May with another 10 projects listed as conversions from single to multiple unit dwellings or apartments.
Year-to-date construction activity is also behind, with work valued at $37.6 million over the first five months of 2024, less than half of the $76.8 million through the end of May last year.
