Prince Edward County is asking for some community input on how to spend its parkland funds to enhance recreational opportunities.
Provincial legislation requires municipalities to spend a certain portion of funds in their Parkland Reserve by the end of the year.
The funds in the reserve come come from developers who provide cash instead of dedicating parkland to the municipality.
Municipalities are required to spend those funds in the same geographic area as the development.
The municipality has allotted a specific amount of money from its 2024 budget for 10 parkland projects across Prince Edward County and is inviting the public to share ideas about the types of amenities or park features they would like the municipality to consider.
The parks involved are:
Consecon Park
Westfall Park
Mariners Park Museum / Milford Park
Wilkinson Memorial Park / Prinyer’s Cove Boat Launch Park
Roblin Lake Park Improvements
Big Island Boat Launch Improvements
Picton Laneway & Green Space
Athol-South Marysburgh Public School Community Access
Jack Taylor Park
Bloomfield Mill Pond Main Street Connection
More information on each project is available on the County’s Have Your Say website.
Staff will gather this feedback and host a second opportunity for public consultation based on the feasible ideas that were provided during this round of public consultation.
Questions or requests for further information on the engagement process can be directed to the County’s Communications department at communications@pecounty.on.ca.
