A night of stand-up comedy in Belleville is focusing on the funny and the not so funny .
Saturday evening at The Core on Pinnacle Street in downtown Belleville is Stand-Up For Mental Health.
It is a fundraiser for the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health.
Seven locals have gone through several weeks of comedic training and will hit the stage as part of the evening.
Each comic lives with mental health challenges.
David Granirer trains the comics and is part of the 75-minute set.
“People talk about their own stories and they put them into stand-up comedy. So it’s a wonderfully therapeutic way to go from having this stuff be a real source of pain, to all of sudden it turns into a source of pride and focus.”
Granirer says everyone can relate to mental heath issues, either by having it themselves, or having someone close to them struggle.
“Stuff is so relatable, people go, aw man I can relate to that myself or geez you know my cousin is going through that, now I totally get what they’re talking about.”
The funds raised go to support those living with mental health challenges.
