Swimming Canada will send 30 swimmers (15 male 15 female) to the 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Canberra Australia in August and Belleville native Francis Brennan is one of them.
The 16-year-old Brennan, a Grade 11 student at Bayside Secondary School and a member of the Belleville Beast Swimming Team qualified last weekend at the Canadian Olympic Trials held at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.
Brennan qualified in four junior finals; the 100- and 200-metre freestyle, the 200-metre individual medley and the 200-metre backstroke.
Brennan has been a member of the Belleville Beast Swim Team since 2016 and recently joined the Ontario Swim Academy in Toronto.
Featuring charter nations Australia, USA, Canada and Japan, the Junior Pan Pacific Championships are held every two years. The competition is also open to other non-European nations with Singapore and New Zealand amongst other regular participants. Canada won three medals (one silver, two bronze) at the last Junior Pan Pacs in Honolulu in 2022.
This year’s event takes place August 21 to the 24.
