For the 91st season in a row the call of “Play Ball” will be heard in the South Hastings Baseball League tonight. (Tuesday)
Through wars and pandemics, the SHBL has managed to play at least one game in every season dating back to 1933.
And the finalists for the last three years, the defending champion Bain Excavating Rockies and Uens Pole Line, get the honour of kicking it off at 7:30 at Jim Uens Field in Melrose.
The South Hastings League will feature nine teams this season for the first time since 2018. They include the Leighton Electric Mudhens, Maclan Designs, the Melrose Farrell Excavating Shamrocks, the Parkhurst Tripps Pirates, the Read McGuinness Water Solutions Young Guns, the Tyendinaga Cardinals, and the expansion Trenton Monarchs.
They will play a 16-game schedule.
