Quinte West council is pushing for increased funding from the province for local libraries.
During Wednesday’s meeting, council received a written report from Quinte West Public Library, detailing how provincial funding for libraries is still based on population studies that are 25 years out of date, and doesn’t meet the needs of the community or reflect population growth since then.
During the same meeting, council passed a motion calling on the provincial government to provide adequate funding for libraries, with funds increasing to match inflation in future years.
Copies of the motion will be sent to Premier Doug Ford, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Minister of Education, local MPP Todd Smith, and MP Ryan Williams.
