Some of the world’s best junior hockey players could be coming to Belleville later this year.
The Belleville Senators and Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board are preparing a bid to host pre-competition games or a camp for the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championships at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre and CAA Arena.
Ottawa is hosting the tournament that begins on Boxing Day.
The City of Belleville approved a resolution by Councillor Paul Carr at Monday’s meeting to provide a letter of support for the bid.
Events could be held from December 18 to 24 with delegations arriving as early as December 12.
This would result in a large economic boost for the region with a large volume of hotel bookings, restaurant reservations and more.
Carr says the Belleville Senators would carry all costs of production, venue and ticket sales with shared revenue to the Regional Marketing Board and Hockey Canada.
