The City of Belleville is expanding its Physician Recruitment and Retention budget.
At Monday’s meeting of council, councillors approved the signing of another nurse practitioner to the program.
Madison Chamberlain has started employment with the Belleville Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic in downtown Belleville.
She will receive $10,000 in exchange for a two-year commitment of full-time service in the city, effectively taking hundreds of patients without a primary health care provider off the wait list.
Staff had revealed there was insufficient room available in the recruitment budget for the incentive payment so council also passed a recommendation that the recruitment program’s operating budget be increased by $350,000 with the money coming from the Elexicon Reserve fund.
At the meeting, Mayor Ellis also announced another doctor signing, with council approving an agreement with Dr. Mohammed Aamir Saiyed.
