The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit has issued an opioid overdose alert for Northumberland County.
Health unit officials say there’s been a notable increase in suspected opioid drug poisonings recently.
The suspected substance is described as light yellow to light green in colour, highly potent, and is being sold as fentanyl or “down.”
When an alert is issued, first responders and other community organizations enhance outreach efforts and the distribution of naloxone kits and other harm reduction supplies.
