Prince Edward County is honouring the Prince Edward District Women’s Institute for their contributions to the community.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, Mayor Steve Ferguson presented a group of representatives from the organization with a civic award.
Using proceeds from their annual crafts show, the Women’s Institute has donated $152,396.63 for accessible transportation over multiple years, along with providing bursaries for students.
Mayor Ferguson said the craft show helped local artists showcase their work to wider audiences, and drew in tourists from other communities.
“For over 40 years, the Women’s Institute’s unwavering dedication to our community has been nothing short of remarkable,” said Mayor Ferguson. “We honour your legacy and look forward to celebrating your achievements in the years to come.”
After the awards were presented, it was announced that the Cherry Valley branch and the Curling Club are preparing to hold the next craft show, in August.
