Brighton council has adopted new allocation policies for its outdoor sports fields and courts and updated its ice allocation policy for the arena.
Council received staff reports and approved the policies at its meeting on Monday.
In the past, Brighton’s clubs and sport volunteers have assumed the role of allocating the court and field facilities to their member groups.
But with Brighton’s ball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis and pickleball courts in high demand, staff say this new process will ensure consistency in balancing the programming and ongoing use of the amenities for the entire community.
The introduction of this policy and outlined process mirrors the approach that has been practised with the ice user groups for many years.
The Manager of Parks and Recreation will administer the booking process.
Staff also used the opportunity to update the current Ice Allocation Policy which was issued in 2009 to clearly define and communicate how ice time will be managed, allocated and distributed.
Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander encourages user groups to reach out to staff if they have any questions about allocations.
