The Cleveland Monster defeated the Belleville Senators 4-3 in overtime at CAA Arena.
The Calder Cup best-of-five playoff series is now tied 1-1.
Wyatt Bongiovanni, Cole Reinhardt, and Stephen Halliday scored for the Sens.
The Senators and the Monster were neck and neck after an action-packed first period, with two goals each. The Monster pulled ahead with an unanswered second period goal, but the Sens came back with a goal in the third period to tie the game and take the teams to overtime. In overtime, the Monster found the back of the net first, and took the game.
Belleville Senators’ Head Coach Dave Bell says the team is going to take some time to rest after the defeat before the series picks up in Cleveland.
“It’s two good teams, that’s why the games are tight. All the teams that made the playoffs are pretty darn good,” said Bell. “I don’t know if I’d call it a lucky bounce, I thought we fell out of structure pretty badly on the overtime goal. It’s definitely not the result we wanted, but we move on.”
The Senators face the Monster again on Wednesday for Game 3.
