The removal of fencing surrounding the former Hotel Quinte property in downtown Belleville does not mean construction activity is imminent.
The fencing had been installed to stop trespassers but was found to be ineffective and has been removed until construction starts.
Meanwhile, development plans for the property have changed somewhat.
A city building official tells Quinte news a site plan is ready for approval and the owners are planning a building with rental apartments rather than condominiums.
When construction might start is unknown.
The original plan called for a six-storey commercial/residential building with 108 units.
